Other scientific names: Microrasbora kubotai

Microdevario kubotai, officially known as Microdevario kubotai, belongs to the family Cyprinidae. Its name honors the Thai biologist Katsuma Kubota. In the aquarium hobby, it is also known as Green Neon Rasbora or Kubotai Rasbora. Interestingly, despite these names, these fish are part of the Danio group. The classification changed in 2009 after thorough DNA research on these creatures. This species is widely found among aquarists, known for its hardiness, ease of care, and breeding. Furthermore, this rasbora shows high compatibility with other species of similar size.

Frequently asked questions

The essentials: size, tank volume, water parameters and care

How big does Microdevario kubotai get?

An adult reaches 2 cm in length. Plan the tank around the maximum size: the fish quickly outgrows a cramped setup.

What size aquarium does Microdevario kubotai need?

The minimum recommended volume is 40 L. A smaller tank speeds up nitrate build-up and raises stress levels.

What water parameters does Microdevario kubotai need?

Temperature 20–27 °C, pH 6–7.5, hardness 1–10 dGH. Stability matters more than exact values: sudden swings are harder on the fish than a small deviation from the ideal.

How long does Microdevario kubotai live?

Around 3 years when kept properly. Lifespan depends directly on tank volume, water quality and a varied diet.

Is Microdevario kubotai aggressive?

Temperament: peaceful (regular). Keep this in mind when choosing tank mates.

How many Microdevario kubotai should be kept together?

Recommended setup: group (8–10 individuals). Ignoring this is a common cause of stress and disease.

What does Microdevario kubotai eat?

Diet type: small / appropriate size / pieces. Feed small portions that are finished within a couple of minutes — overfeeding does more harm than underfeeding.

What is the scientific name of Microdevario kubotai?

The scientific name of the species is Microdevario kubotai, family Cyprinids (Cyprinidae). It also appears in the literature as: Microrasbora kubotai.
