Corydoras

Family:(Armored or Callichthyid Catfishes)

The Guapore Corydoras, officially known as Corydoras guapore, belongs to the extensive armored catfish family (Callichthyidae). This catfish was named after its initial discovery location – the basin of the eponymous Guaporé River. This river serves as a natural border between the Bolivian northeastern provinces and the Brazilian state of Rondônia in South America. It prefers to inhabit small rivers and streams, only occasionally being found in the main channel. The natural habitat of this species is characterized by water of a rich brown hue. This is due to the high concentration of tannins, which dissolve in the water during the decomposition of organic plant materials.

Frequently asked questions

The essentials: size, tank volume, water parameters and care

How big does Guapore Corydoras get?

An adult reaches 4–5 cm in length. Plan the tank around the maximum size: the fish quickly outgrows a cramped setup.

What size aquarium does Guapore Corydoras need?

The minimum recommended volume is 80 L. A smaller tank speeds up nitrate build-up and raises stress levels.

What water parameters does Guapore Corydoras need?

Temperature 22–28 °C, pH 5–7, hardness 2–12 dGH. Stability matters more than exact values: sudden swings are harder on the fish than a small deviation from the ideal.

How long does Guapore Corydoras live?

Around 5 years when kept properly. Lifespan depends directly on tank volume, water quality and a varied diet.

Is Guapore Corydoras aggressive?

Temperament: peaceful (regular). Keep this in mind when choosing tank mates.

How many Guapore Corydoras should be kept together?

Recommended setup: small group (5–6 individuals). Ignoring this is a common cause of stress and disease.

What does Guapore Corydoras eat?

Diet type: any (universal). Feed small portions that are finished within a couple of minutes — overfeeding does more harm than underfeeding.

What is the scientific name of Guapore Corydoras?

The scientific name of the species is Corydoras guapore, family (Armored or Callichthyid Catfishes).
