Guppy Tuxedo, or as it is also called, Tuxedo Guppy, got its English name from its distinctive coloration. The scientific name for this strain is Poecilia reticulata (Tuxedo strain). It is a representative of the Poeciliidae family. A characteristic feature is the contrast between the light front part of the body and the dark rear part, including the tail. This contrast is especially pronounced in black and white specimens. However, the overall coloration can be very diverse, often with a predominance of shades such as red, yellow, gold, or green.

Frequently asked questions

The essentials: size, tank volume, water parameters and care

How big does Guppy Tuxedo get?

An adult reaches 3–6 cm in length. Plan the tank around the maximum size: the fish quickly outgrows a cramped setup.

What size aquarium does Guppy Tuxedo need?

The minimum recommended volume is 40 L. A smaller tank speeds up nitrate build-up and raises stress levels.

What water parameters does Guppy Tuxedo need?

Temperature 17–28 °C, pH 7–8.5, hardness 10–30 dGH. Stability matters more than exact values: sudden swings are harder on the fish than a small deviation from the ideal.

How long does Guppy Tuxedo live?

Around 3 years when kept properly. Lifespan depends directly on tank volume, water quality and a varied diet.

Is Guppy Tuxedo aggressive?

Temperament: peaceful (regular). Keep this in mind when choosing tank mates.

How many Guppy Tuxedo should be kept together?

Recommended setup: mixed (solitary / pair / group). Ignoring this is a common cause of stress and disease.

What does Guppy Tuxedo eat?

Diet type: any (universal). Feed small portions that are finished within a couple of minutes — overfeeding does more harm than underfeeding.

What is the scientific name of Guppy Tuxedo?

The scientific name of the species is Poecilia reticulata (порода Tuxedo), family Poeciliidae. It also appears in the literature as: Acanthophacelus guppii, Acanthophacelus reticulatus, Girardinus guppii.
